Categories, Dues & Eligibility

This page is the source of truth for FHDC membership classification, eligibility, annual dues, initiation fees, and payment structure.

Five Membership Categories

FHDC assigns each approved applicant to the category that best reflects the individual's primary professional role.

Membership belongs to the individual—not the individual's employer or affiliated organization.

Categories determine eligibility and applicable dues. They do not create different levels of access or membership privilege.

01
National Security Member

Military & Government

Who Qualifies
Eligible active-duty military personnel and government employees.
Annual Dues
Complimentary

National Security Membership is intended to enable eligible public servants to participate personally in FHDC's social community.

Membership does not imply agency endorsement, institutional affiliation, preferential access, influence, or any connection to the performance of official duties.

Eligibility for complimentary membership does not itself establish authorization to accept the benefit. Members remain responsible for compliance with applicable ethics requirements and should consult their agency ethics officials when appropriate.

02
Community Partner

Nonprofit Organizations

Who Qualifies
Individuals affiliated with qualifying nonprofit organizations connected to the national security community, including think tanks, policy institutes, research and educational nonprofits, veteran and military service organizations, foundations, and similar nonprofit institutions.
Annual Dues
$1,000
Membership AllocationUp to 15%
Up to 15% of FHDC's capped paying membership composition.

Membership is individual and intended for genuine participation in the club—not institutional representation, fundraising, or commercial development.

03
Builder

Founders, Executives & Operators

Who Qualifies
Founders, executives, entrepreneurs, and operators actively building or leading companies, technologies, products, and capabilities connected to national security.
Annual Dues
$3,000–$9,000
Membership AllocationUp to 50%
Up to 50% of FHDC's capped paying membership composition.

Applicable dues reflect professional stage and geography.

04
Investor

Investment Community

Who Qualifies
Individuals whose primary professional role involves investing in, financing, or managing capital directed toward companies, technologies, or industries connected to national security.
Annual Dues
$4,000–$12,000
Membership AllocationUp to 25%
Up to 25% of FHDC's capped paying membership composition.

Applicable dues reflect professional stage and geography.

05
Supporter

Government Affairs, Advisory, Consulting & Professional Services

Who Qualifies
Individuals working in government affairs, strategic advisory, consulting, business development, legal, professional services, and related fields serving the national security community.
Annual Dues
$6,000–$25,000
Membership AllocationUp to 10%
Up to 10% of FHDC's capped paying membership composition.

Supporter Membership receives enhanced review because these professions can involve client development, advocacy, representation, sales, or other commercial activity.

Applicants must demonstrate a genuine desire to participate in FHDC's social community beyond client acquisition, lobbying, representation, contract development, or commercial prospecting.

Membership does not provide preferential access, guaranteed introductions, commercial privileges, or a right to solicit members.

How Classification Works

FHDC uses three factors to determine the applicable membership classification and annual dues.

1
Category
Your primary professional role:
National Security MemberCommunity PartnerBuilderInvestorSupporter
2
Professional Stage
EarlyEarlier stages of professional development, company building, investment activity, or organizational leadership.
ScalingGrowing professional experience, enterprise scale, responsibility, or leadership.
EstablishedSignificant professional experience, senior leadership responsibility, established companies, or mature investment activity.
3
Geography
DC / DMVPrimarily based in the Washington metropolitan area.
FrontierPrimarily based elsewhere in the United States.
InternationalPrimarily based outside the United States.

FHDC makes the final classification during membership review and confirms it before enrollment.

Membership classifications may be reviewed as professional circumstances or geography change. Any resulting dues adjustment is communicated before the member's next annual commitment.

Annual Membership Dues
Membership CategoryAnnual Dues
National Security MemberComplimentary
Community Partner$1,000
Builder$3,000–$9,000
Investor$4,000–$12,000
Supporter$6,000–$25,000

Dues support Frontier House DC and its operations as a whole.

They are not payment for a particular introduction, program, commercial opportunity, government connection, or individual service.

Initiation Fee
$1,000
One-time · New paying memberships

A $1,000 initiation fee applies to every new paying membership unless specifically waived by FHDC approval.

The initiation fee is separate from annual membership dues.

Any applicable waiver is confirmed before enrollment.

Payment Terms

One annual commitment. Three ways to pay.

Approved paying members may be offered:

1
Annual
One payment toward the annual membership commitment.
4
Quarterly
Four scheduled payments toward the annual membership commitment.
12
Monthly
Twelve scheduled payments toward the annual membership commitment.
All membership dues represent a twelve-month financial commitment, regardless of payment frequency.

Monthly and quarterly billing are payment arrangements, not monthly or quarterly memberships.

The applicable dues, payment amounts, initiation fee, and schedule will be confirmed before enrollment.

Payment arrangements are administered through FHDC's authorized payment processor.

The complete Membership Agreement—including applicable renewal, cancellation, payment authorization, and other binding terms—is presented to the approved applicant before payment.
